In June of 2004, when I was selling expedition t-shirts to help defray the cost of our LongWalk Expedition. While I was checking through the online sales receipts I nearly fell out of my chair when I noticed a man named Rawicz from England had purchased a t-shirt.
For the previous two years, I had tried in vain to contact Slavomir Rawicz, the author of the Long Walk. Was it possible that Rawicz had seen our website and ordered a t-shirt? The answer was both yes and no. It turns out that a Rawicz’s had indeed found out site, however it was not Slavomir, but his son Richard who had ordered a t-shirt. After emailing Richard and his sister Susan, I sadly learned that Salvomir had passed away just few months earlier. Richard and Susan were very kind in sending me the attached letter and images of Slavomir Rawicz and wished me luck on my expedition.
